Thursday Thirteen #7

All about the doggies.. (They are pictured down the side as #s 1-4)

1. Maggie is the barking devil.

2. Sam

3. Simon

4. Sweet Winnie

5. My favorite foster dog was Holly- she was a pregnant Chihuahua we found a few days before Christmas. I still see at least one of her puppies on a regular basis- it is my sister's dog Jack.

6. We got Maggie right before we got married, she was a teeny tiny little ball of fur!
She is now 9 years old and a spoiled brat.

7. Winnie joined us when we decided Maggie was lonely.... There was a puppy mill up in Humbolt, TN and some of the "breeders" were brought down here to our vet. We were going to get another pom, but Winnie was just so sweet and quiet- we were afraid no one else would take her.

8. There were two Japanese Chins at the vet's office that day- we found out later that the other one (which we almost took) had severe stress problems and it's eyeball would pop out of socket whenever it got upset. So.... we pretty much dodged a bullet on that one.

9. Sam was also at the vet's office. I went in to pick something up and he was there with his sister. They were the cutest puppies I had ever seen and the little girl had a tiny pink cast on her leg.
I went every day to see them and when she got adopted I panicked and paid the vet to hold on to the other one until I could come get him that night.

10. Simon was one of our foster dogs. We went and picked him up at the shelter (yeah, the bad one- it was so sad) and he smelled so bad we had to come home with the windows down. He couldn't go to the groomers for two weeks so I spent HOURS cleaning him up and shaving all the mats off of him. Matt really wanted to keep him but I was adamant that we were adopting him out. We went to adoption day and as soon as some people starting filling out some paperwork for him, I went and wrote a check to Guardian Angel and told everyone he was no longer up for adoption.

11. We have two purebred dogs, two we got as puppies, and three of the four are "rescues". If I were picking out a dog now I would say- don't worry about the breed (or non-breed) just worry about what will fit in with your lifestyle and find a dog with a "personality" to match.

If you are getting a dog of any age or breed.... KENNEL TRAIN YOUR DOG. You will both be so much happier in the long run. It is easier and safer and will make living with your dog a much happier experience.

12. Go check out Guardian Angel Pet Rescue. You can donate money, participate in their yearly 5K run, foster a dog, or even adopt one! They have cats too if you want one of those.

13. My dogs are the laziest dogs in America- they often refuse to come out of their kennels until well after 11am.
