Happy Valentine's Day

Okay, this is going to be a long one. So settle in.

As most of you will recall we lost our dog Maggie at the end of last month. Matt and I got her a few months before we got married so she would have been 10 on the 16th of this month. Maggie was always the "popular" dog- she demanded the most attention and she loved people. Ever since Charlotte was about 18 months old she had adopted Maggie for her own. She wanted to play with "little Maggie" day and night. When Maggie got sick, she would sit in our bedroom for the longest time and just barely rub her head since Maggie couldn't handle much else. Since Maggie died, every day (sometimes several times a day) she would ask so go see her "little Maggie friend". No matter how many times I told her that she was gone and we weren't going to be able to see her anymore... she asked and asked.

So one night I was up WAY TOO LATE. I ran out of things to look at on the internet and ended up here. And now here were are about 5 days later.

So to say that Charlotte had a Happy Valentine's day might be an understatement.

On Saturday we went to meet Shelby. She is a pug mix about 2-3 years old being fostered by Guardian Angel- a lady had 8 dogs and gave up 4 of them when she couldn't take care of them anymore- she wasn't abused or abandoned or anything. The best part is that she came already housebroken (which was my biggest dealbreaker). One of my goals in life is to never housebreak another dog. Ever.

This picture more or less sums things up:
( I know she looks kinda mad, but she was mostly irritated that we interrupted her nap)

She came to our house for the weekend (I told Charlotte over and over she was only coming to visit) but last night C curled up on a blanket with her and "read" her a Clifford book. Shortly after that she informed us "I LOVE Shelby". Today while I was making lunch Charlotte was "painting" Shelby's toenails with her fingers. The dog just laid there. I got to make lunch without someone "painting" my toenails.
I guess she might be sticking around.

PS. We didn't name her and once Charlotte overheard us call her that we couldn't convince her to change it to anything else, so I guess it is going to stay.

I am so glad you posted that link...we are thinking about adopting a dog, and I would love to adopt one who's a little older and already housebroken! I just didn't know exactly where to look other than the Humane Society.

awwwww! Shelby is a good name too! Just think... it's not Lulabelle which was Dinah's name at the farm she was "dropped off" at. Dinah somehow came from Diner & it stuck.
