Very cool graphics; he is at archery and won't be home til after Spanish. . . . we'll be sure he comes across this. . . .
And, I have sang Happy Birthday more than once today; it's all good.

Oh my goodness Christopher is 17!! WOW!!!! That just seems wrong. OK I definitely feel old.

Yes, yes, Lori, you and Jessica ARE old. I however, keep getting younger! Ha ha!!

Wait a minute. I think we are all missing the most important thing here. He is at archery?!?

When did this start? Does he have his own "piece?" (Not sure what they call archery equipment on the street) Why is he taking archery?

Homeschool, homeschool, it's great. He's in an Archery League that meets on Mondays. Some of his bowling pals are in it and talked him into trying.

He does not have his own 'piece' at this time, because they are rather expensive.......and too large to fit a bookshelf cabinet.

He likes it. All the kids (girls too) that are in the league just think it is fun.

I mean, these are teenagers and they get to play with dangerous weapons; what's not to like?

I'm wondering if I should let Jessica try this? I mean, how dangerous could it be? What do y'all think?

They have to take a safety class first (3); she could do it for sure! There are other girls her age, and plenty of cute guys that know how to shoot things. She should love that.

MSM said...

Sorry, I should have said, "she WOULD love that", not necessarily that she SHOULD . . .

I just love how halo is too violent and kids that play violent video games are "totally desensitized to violence in real life" (quoting the boy here), yet shooting an actual deadly weapon first hand is perfectly normal.

And I love.... how some people think that shooting a real weapon in a controlled/ teaching environment at an inanimate object has the same effect as hours upon hours of pretend / simulated murder, with accompanying gore and graphics.

I have to concur that the "violence" argument can't really come into to play simply but holding/using a weapon.

Violence is using that weapon to inflict pain/force.

matt is definitely right here. why is it play weapons = bad, real weapons = good?

MSM said...

It's not a difference of toy gun vs. real gun. It's the 'role-playing' of murder, mayhem, and violence vs. learning to safely handle a weapon.

MSM said...

And, so, do you believe that learning to handle a weapon is a bad thing? Or that violent video games are just not detrimental?

Are you for or against Jessica taking up archery?

Jessica said...

Weapons are not the issue. Violence and weapons are two totally separate things.

A weapon could be a candlestick to beat someone to death with.

I could use a knife to clean out from under my fingernails.

Violence is in the ACTION not the thing you are holding. It doesn't matter if you have a crossbow, sniper rifle, or a lamp- it matters what you do with it.
